SCHOOL ETHOS AND CHARACTER

The school ethos and daily practices reflect those of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Parents and learners must agree to submit to such practices before finalizing their applications. Some of the unique Seventh-day Adventist emphases and practices are:

  • Bethel College upholds the Word of God, as revealed in the Holy Bible, as the basis of all truth.
We endeavour to reveal our Lord through all aspects of campus life.
  • We seek to create a spiritual atmosphere through daily worship, vespers, and Sabbath services.
Sabbath hours (starting from sunset on Friday evening to sunset on Saturday evening) are regarded as holy and dedicated to spiritual activities. No secular meetings or activities will be allowed during these hours.
  • Prayer meetings are also conducted on Wednesdays and daily in the dormitories and before school starts. (Deans and Matrons are responsible for the daily worship in the hostels).
  • In keeping with Seventh-day Adventist principles of healthful living, vegetarian meals are served in the dining hall. We ask that students not purchase or use meat products and/or caffeinated beverages (including caffeinated soft drinks) at the school or any time while under the care of the school. The best chance for spiritual development is a healthy physical body. Junk food, unbalanced nutrition, and eating between meals threaten our health. Parents are implored to support our efforts by avoiding unhealthy “treats” in your care packages.
  • Bethel College strives for zero tolerance for smoking, alcohol, drug and substance abuse. Use of any of the above is regarded as a serious offence and works against the principles and values of the institution. The school has a programme to support learners against smoking, drug and substance abuse in partnership with our Lifestyle and Wellness Centre on campus.
